![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pennywise, The Line, and Deviates 01-05-02
Let's see the show sold out completely...the entire show i was stuck upstairs which kinda made the show a bit less fun, but it was still a good show. First up was The Line. And yes i know some of you are saying, "What about Lars? Who 's The Line?" Well, apparently Lars hurt his back or something like that so The Line filled in for them. If you were at Guttermouth I'm sure you heard The Line. They aren't too fantastic. They are on Volcom Entertainment (since when is Volcom a record label?). They are a bunch of silly looking old men. And their lead singer dude (i guess) seems to almost fall off the stage a lot. The Line played for what seemed like an eternity as my friends, Autumn and Charlene, and I booed them for the majority of the time hoping the their lead singer dude would really fall off the stage. Finally, they got off the stage! After saying like six times that it would be their last song.
Now, the Deviates. They were pretty awesome. Hmm...let's see...I don't know why i don't remember much of them at all. Strange. But i do remember that they were awesome. Yup...i have a bad memory....
Finally, Pennywise came on. Well, they played great. And yeah...let's see...it was all going just fine and no body was hurt but then...during Perfect People (my favorite Pennywise song) this stupid stupid stupid guy decided that he could jump off the balcony, grab onto the curtain, and slide down it to safety and end up on the stage. Well, it doesn't work! He fell down pretty fast and hit the stage with a loud thud! He hit his head and rolled over a bit when some people backstage pulled him back. Moron. Well, lets see...oh there was another guy who was crowd surfing and then he tried to jump to the stage. He got half way on the stage when security pulled him down but Pennywise let him up on stage and yelled at the security. Ha Ha! Yup...it was an awesome show...
Social Distortion and Lost City Angels 12-21-01
Best HOB show in a long long time. Like it says on the news page, there were NO kids. I was in heaven. No one being stupid, no one being overly violent...no girls in british flag shirts, no one saying how cool Sid Vicious is, errr..was rather. Anyway, only 2 bands, both rocked, and both played a long long time. FIrst the Lost City Angels came on. I'd never heard of them, but they said they were from BOSTON and gained 10 cool points right there. Then they started playing and gained like a billion more. If you like Boston punk, no DKM style, just good ole punk, I highly recomend Lost City Angels. And if you dont like Boston punk, i suggest you take your head out of whatever oraface you have it in.
Then Social Distortion came on. No need for explanation, the were amazing. But you all know that. They played lots of old stuff, some new stuff...from an UPCOMING ALBUM...thats right, expect some new Social D soon kids. They played for a good 2 hours or so. Then the show ended, and I went home a happy camper. The happy campers also rock, but you know what? i did a search on KaZaA for them and some crazy techno Happy Campers came up...weird.
The Vandals, Tsunami Bomb, F-minus, and Audio Karate 12-01-01
Alrite...sorry this took so long, but I'm lazy and have been sick and wasnt home at all this weekend or much of last and have to go to school (which is really far away) all week, but here it is: Bored In Vegas' review of the Vandals show on the 1st!
So here's the line up...you got your super sucky band, that'd be Audio Karate...or Audio KRAP-ate as we refered to them that nite, followed by the super cool F Minus, then the always lovely Tsunami Bomb, and then...the band that makes me wanna pee myself- THE VANDALS!
OK, so for all of you who dont know, Audio Karate is some kinda Lagwagon-ish, whiney, emo-esque band. They gave a "shout out" to lagwagon at one point..although the band wasnt present. Fortunately I dont think they played more than 7 songs; we went and sat in the huntridge lobby to escape the noise.
Then F-Minus came on. I'd only heard them on Hellcat's "give em the boot 2" compilation, so I wasnt sure what to expect. Well they rocked harder than an unbalanced washing machine on ecstacy...if that makes any sense. If you like hardcore (not angry get punched in the mouth Dillinger Escape Plan type hardcore, not that I got anything against that either) Street punk, or as some like to call it "anarchopunk" then you'll love F-Minus. Not to mention their incredibly friendly bassist and guitar players, Erica and Jen. Anyone who will sign my smelly old vans is cool in my book.
F-Minus' set was when i got put outta commision due to a nasty blow to the throat in the pit..actually several hits to the neck, but the last one was brutal. For some reason I went deaf in one ear. Anyway, I was back on my feet just in time for Tsunami Bomb. They played stuff from their old vinyl release, stuff from their CD...and got the crowd singin' along just like Agent M always seems to do. This is the 3rd time I've seen 'em live, and I think its probably the best too. They also have to be one of the nicest bands ever. Always mingling in the crowd. The always easy on the eyes frontman..no thats not right, frontlady..front person...umm...Agent M, also signed my smelly old vans, which, as above stated, makes her cool.
But the nite hadnt really started till the Vandals came on. Still too beat up to mosh (I went in, hearing impared and all, during Tsunami Bomb...that had to be one of the best pits I've ever been in at the Huntridge) I made my way to the very front and center to sing along with the super cool Dave, lead singer of the Vandals. They played songs from throughout the history of the Vandals...pretty much everything but "Dont Wanna Change My Pants" off Live Fast Diahreah, which the guys next to me kept requesting. Of course in the Christmas Spirit they played the classic Christmas Carol, Oi to The World...you know how it goes: "if God came down on Christmas day, I know just what he'd say. He'd say Oi to the Punks! Oi to the Skins! Oi to the world and everybody wins!" So yeah anyway...they played a full set plus an encore, which featured Warren's butt cheeks and what must've been a 15 minute version of "I've Got A Date." They ended the nite with the Goodbye song from The Sound of Music I believe...right after which everyone was quickly asked to leave by security as it was almost midnite, making this one of the longest shows i've ever been to at the Huntridge also, except for the Huntridge Music Festival last June. So anyways..the show was great, except for Audio Karate...Josh Freese is the best drummer of all time, Agent M is just great (so is the rest of Tsunami Bomb), and F-Minus now takes first place in my "band i was worst injured during" contest. The Sucide Machines would win..but they hadnt set up yet..but thats another story. Alrite, G'nite, and dont use punk music as an excuse to be lame.
In the words of the immortal Jello Biafra (for all you kiddies who know who that is) "A haircuts not a lifestyle." Which means your 80 dollar bondage pants dont make you an individual anymore than listening to Britney Spears. Its just music people...dont get me started.
Ataris, All, and No Motive 11-30-01
The show was pretty good over all. Some bad sruff happened to my friends but I'm not gonna say what happened if you were there you probably know what happened. But No Motive played first...they were good. And then All played and people were happy to see All. Lastly, The Ataris played. Now...they did ok but I think they could have done better. Last time I saw The Ataris (at Warped) they played much better than they played last night. But anyways....if you didn't get to go....you werent missing too much. Oh yeah...Ataris shirts were expensive cuz they were Dickies...if you want Ataris stuff then you should really get it from their site. The rest of the stuff wasn't too bad.
NFG, H2O, Thrice and Rx Bandits 11-20-01
Allrighty that show was a lotta lotta fun...at least for me it was! Let's see...first up was Rx Bandits (if I remember correctly), then Thrice, H2O and finally......A New Found Glory. I don't remember what songs were played and stuff like that I do remember that Rx Bandits did play a good show. Thrice was good as well...and H2O was too. H2O tried to get everyone to have a moment of silence for all the people who lost their lives with the Sept. 11th incident..but of course...there are always those morons who cant shut their mouths for one minute...but most of the people were respectful and quiet. A New Found Glory was alright but they TALK TOO MUCH! People came to hear them play not to listen to them talk and whine about stuff no one cares about...their shows would be much better if they didn't talk so much! Grr! But wutever. The pits were nuts! I couldn't believe that people were REALLY moshing to NFG. I mean really moshing! It was crazy...but as always it was fun. And that's what counts most!
